We started mid-day, both of us ready to find a nice place to camp along the Clackamas River. It was a bit chilly on the way out but sunny for part of it.
We rode out to Estacada and stopped for some last minute food then into the Mt Hood National Forest via 224.
We tried to take Faraday Road but were turned around by a recent rock slide that covered the road so we had to take the long climb on the highway.
As we got to Fish Creek, we took some double-track, not a problem for our bikes, but a bit rougher than anticipated. We didn’t find a good place to camp at first, so we u-turned and headed back to the road. Along the way we found some single-track and a flat spot just off to the side.
It was getting dark at this point so we set up camp, had some dinner, and got some shut eye. This would be the first time I’ve taken my hammock on a bike overnighter.
The next morning we awoke to the sun and hikers walking by on the trail. After breakfast we broke camp to head back home.
The sun was out all day and got into the low 70’s by mid-day.
It was a heck of a weekend to try bike camping for the first time.
